Annie Parnell is an editor, journalist, and audio producer based in Richmond, VA. She specializes in music and pop culture, particularly folk, Americana, indie rock, and punk and hardcore, but her coverage has also included environmental news and equity, disability and accessibility, and local and national news and politics. She has a particular interest in queer artistry, uplifting systemically-ignored perspectives, fantasy, science fiction, and horror narratives, and work that interrogates genre boundaries.

Annie’s writing on music and film can be found in PopMatters, The Boot, Taste of Country, We Are The Mutants, and Country Queer. She runs the newsletter Tugboat. Previously, she was an audio producer for local news and culture at the Charlottesville, VA station WTJU 91.1 FM, a co-host of the weekly radio show Cowboy Church at WXTJ, and the Editor-in-Chief of The Declaration.
